What’s Wrong With Britt on GENERAL HOSPITAL?

Tags:

Since Kelly Thiebaud‘s most recent return to GENERAL HOSPITAL, Britt has been showing a more sympathetic side and growing closer to Jason, but what fans have really been wondering about is why is her hand shaking? The doctor has been trying to keep the hand tremors quiet, but as the condition continues, it’s becoming harder and harder to do so. What could be wrong with her?

The general assumption is that Britt is suffering from Huntington’s disease, a brain disease that is passed down from generation to generation, because her father, legendary GH supervillian Cesar Faison had the same illness. The disease causes degeneration of nerve cells in the brain and symptoms can include personality changes, forgetfulness, slurred speech, and involuntary movements, like hand tremors. The condition usually manifests when someone is in their 30s or 40s.

Back in February, Britt made an appointment with a specialist to have her intermittent hand tremors looked at but by the following month, she was frustrated when the appointment had to be rescheduled. However, this particular plot thread has not been dropped, because even as she has worked to help save Jason’s life after he was shot escaping from the hospital and Cyrus’ men, her hand has continued to shake. But right now, she’s more worried about keeping Jason alive and helping him take Cyrus down to care about her own problems.

Hopefully, once things settle down, Britt can finally see a specialist and get her tremors diagnosed officially. Because if it is actually Huntington’s disease, it can be managed, though there is currently no cure. Nothing can be done to stop or reverse the progression of the disease, but the symptoms can be managed with medication and therapy.

Stay tuned to GH to see how Britt’s storyline continues to unfold and what kind of diagnosis she receives when she is finally able to see a doctor. Then hope for the best!
