Finn on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL — Everything You Need To Know

Dr. John “Finn” Finnegan on THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL is a newer character so fans were naturally curious as his past was revealed bit by bit. Of course, viewers probably recognized his portrayer, Tanner Novlan, from his very popular Liberty Mutual commercials where he plays a struggling actor who is really struggling with his dialogue for the ad! Also, Novlan is married to former B&B star Kayla Ewell (ex-Caitlin) in real life! Novlan made his daytime debut in July 2020, and while it appeared that his run came to an end in April 2022 when Finn met a tragic fate, that was all misdirection on the soap’s part to keep the audience guessing!

After colliding with Bill Spencer’s car while out on a motorcycle ride, Steffy Forrester landed herself in the hospital where the handsome young ER doctor John Finnigan ran some tests and informed a worried Bill that she was stable. As Steffy’s visitors came and went and brought some drama with them, Finn focused his attention on his patient. And after Steffy was discharged, he stopped by her home to reveal that he lived nearby and thought he’d drop off her paperwork in person.

Unfortunately, Steffy insisted she was still in pain and Finn was reluctant to give her any more drugs as she was clearly becoming dependent. Steffy confessed she was falling for the handsome doctor, but it wasn’t just a ploy to get a new prescription. They really had fallen for each other, and Finn helped get her into rehab so she could get clean.

Finn then began dating Steffy officially and worried about her continued closeness with Liam. He also treated Thomas Forrester when he required emergency brain surgery. Finn’s worries turned out to be warranted when Steffy confessed that she was pregnant but didn’t know who the father was because she’d slept with Liam! Finn blasted Liam and wondered if Steffy was truly committed to their relationship or just wanted her ex back. But when Steffy sincerely apologized and said she wanted the baby to be his, Finn agreed to stick around. Even after the paternity test results showed Liam was the babydaddy.

However, Vinny Walker had been acting suspicious and when Finn found Thomas confronting his supposed friend about the DNA test, the two men got the lab tech to confess that he’d tampered with the results so Thomas could have a chance with Hope Logan. Thrilled, Finn rushed to find Steffy before she left for Paris and proposed. She didn’t want to force him to raise another man’s child but when he revealed she was carrying their baby, she quickly accepted!

Finn was by Steffy’s side as she delivered their son in their home and they named him Hayes. They then decided not to wait any longer to tie the knot, and when Finn introduced his bride-to-be to his father, Jack Finnegan, he revealed that he was adopted. His mother, Li, joined them for the beautiful wedding ceremony, but the reception was spoiled by the arrival of Sheila Carter, who revealed she was Finn’s birth mother!

Although everyone warned him to stay as far away from Sheila as possible, Finn was naturally curious about his mother. Things then got further complicated when it was revealed that Jack was actually his biological father because he and Sheila had an affair! As Sheila’s schemes grew out of control, Steffy tried to put a stop to them but when Sheila tried to put a stop to her, it was Finn who took the bullet! When Steffy attempted to call 911, Sheila shot her as well, then made it look like a robbery before leaving them to die in the alley. By the time Deacon Sharpe discovered the horrific scene and called for help, it was too late and he later reported to Sheila that her son was dead.

However, it was soon revealed that Li was caring for her son in secret as Finn was very much alive, albeit in a coma! Unfortunately, when he finally awoke, Finn was horrified to find Sheila taking care of him! Unaware of what Sheila had done to Li, Finn was desperate to see Steffy and his family, but Sheila wasn’t about to let him go anywhere in his condition… or ever! Finn was horrified when Sheila claimed his mother was dead but then Li showed up with Bill (who had rescued her after the car crash) to help subdue Sheila and rescue him. Bill helped fly Finn to Europe where he reunited with Kelly and Hayes and eventually found his wife outside a church in Monaco. 

After enjoying some happiness with his family reunited, Finn was stunned to learn that Sheila had been killed in a bear attack, but later, he grew suspicious and found evidence that proved his mother had faked her death. He and Steffy alerted the cops but were shocked when Sheila arrived at their home during a storm… and even more so when Bill showed up after her to reveal they were together! He threatened to turn Taylor in for shooting him if they sent Sheila to prison, so at the villain’s hearing, they declined to press charges.

Thankfully, it was all part of a scheme that Bill and Ridge had cooked up to trick Sheila into confessing to some of her crimes so she could be sent away for good. While running from the police, Sheila had a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital where Li wasn’t particularly interested in reviving her so Finn stepped in to save her life. This gave her hope she could have a relationship with her son and grandson, but Finn visited her in prison to inform her that would never happen.

However, when the judge set Sheila free on a technicality, Finn hugged Sheila outside the courtroom and Liam caught the moment on video, which he wasted no time sharing with Steffy. She wasn’t too concerned until later, Sheila rescued Kelly from drowning while Finn’s back was turned at the beach. Finn accused Liam of trying to sabotage his marriage, but Steffy didn’t feel like her husband would protect his family from Sheila and moved into the Forrester mansion before ultimately taking the kids to Europe. 

Finn was stunned when Sheila and Deacon announced their engagement, and also expressed to Hope his concerns about her new relationship with Thomas. He was thrilled when Steffy brought the kids home and they invited his newly-arrived cousin, Luna, over for dinner. 

Curious about Eric Forrester’s symptoms, Finn researched the seemingly fatal illness and discovered an experimental treatment that could save the patriarch’s life. Although he initially refused, Ridge agreed to the procedure and afterward, Finn urged him to be optimistic. Thankfully, the surgery was a success and Eric eventually had a new lease on life.

When Xander Avant arrived for his appointment, Finn asked about his connection to the Forresters, and he revealed what he knew about Thomas causing Emma Barber’s death. Upset when Steffy defended her brother, Finn warned Hope against her relationship with Thomas. Finn urged Steffy to get the truth, and Thomas confessed he’d witnessed the crash but didn’t cause it.

Finn was happy to see his Aunt Poppy again and recalled when she once lived with her sister’s family. But his whole world came crashing down when Steffy killed Sheila in self-defense when the psycho broke into their home. Finn and Steffy’s marriage fractured as she reeled from taking a life and he was haunted by his mother’s death. She was upset when Finn agreed to attend the memorial that Deacon was holding for Sheila, but he needed closure.
