Veronica Redd Returns to Y&R!
A fan favorite is on their way back to Genoa City! Veronica Redd returns to THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS to reprise the role of Mamie Johnson beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 26!
Redd took over the role of Mamie from Marguerite Ray back in 1990 and continued to portray the Abbott family housekeeper until her final appearance in 2004. The actress recently came back to Y&R in March 2023 as part of the soap’s 50th-anniversary celebration.
Just as she did in March, Mamie will be coming home to reconnect with family. Although hired as the housekeeper, she was practically a mother to John Abbott’s three oldest children, Jack, Ashley, and Traci in the absence of their real mother, Dina.
With Jack’s marriage to Diane and Ashley’s union to Tucker pitting the siblings against each other (not to mention Billy feeling disrespected), the Abbott family has been at the center of quite a lot of drama recently. Traci is usually the one who helps keep the peace, but maybe Mamie can give her some backup?
Redd’s lengthy show-biz resume includes episodes of primetime series like THE JEFFERSONS, GOOD TIMES, EIGHT IS ENOUGH, LOU GRANT, WKRP IN CINCINNATI, 227, LIVING SINGLE, and ER. She can also be seen in the TV mini-series The Women of Brewster Place as well as movies like Clean and Sober, Heart and Soul, The Five Heartbeats, and Blue Hill Avenue.
Although the show didn’t indicate how long Redd’s run would last, it’s likely only a brief visit, so you won’t want to miss a single moment of it!
