Chad Brannon Returns To GENERAL HOSPITAL Today!

The day has arrived! As first reported last month, GENERAL HOSPITAL alum Chad Brannon (Zander) has returned to the ABC soap, and he will be back in Port Charles today, sharing scenes with his alter ego’s teenage son Cameron, as played by William Lipton!

Brannon played troubled Zander Smith on GH from 2000 to 2004, earning two Daytime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Younger Actor and taking home the trophy in 2004 after his exit. The character was killed off when Zander was shot by the PCPD during a tense standoff, dying in Emily’s arms and leaving Liz to raise their son by herself. (Zander’s exit was a tad more complicated than that, but you can read all about it here.)

The actor later made a cameo appearance on GH in December 2009 as Aaron, a man whom Rebecca Shaw met aboard an airplane. The brief appearance was a nod to longtime viewers as Brannon and Rebecca’s portrayer, Natalia Livingston, were a popular couple while playing Zander and Emily.

While GH was tight-lipped regarding the storyline that brings Brannon back to the canvas — and who he’d be playing — it has since become clear that the actor will be appearing as Zander. In the tease for today’s episode, a troubled Cameron is at the Port Charles cemetery when his father appears, visiting his son from beyond the grave.

In the days leading up to his GH comeback, Brannon took to social media to share how thrilled he was to be back on the soap’s set, praising his young co-star and thanking the soap for the opportunity. “Excited for this,” Brannon shared on Twitter and Instagram. “Had a great time working with William. Watch out for this kind and talented guy. His future is bright. Proud of my ‘son!’ News to come!”

On Twitter, Lipton replied that he had “deep respect for the talented Chad Brannon” and was “so honored to be able to work with you!”

Have some tissues ready, because we suspect that the scenes will be a doozy!
