Fans were surprised to learn that the role of Eric on DAYS OF OUR LIVES was being temporarily recast and were naturally wondering why Jason Gerhardt was stepping in for Greg Vaughan for a handful of episodes. And when Vaughan took to X (the social media platform formerly known as Twitter) to explain the reason behind the recast, it was one of the most likely suspects!
“Unfortunately, I tested positive for COVID, and The Powers That Be had to keep moving forward,” Vaughan revealed. “And thanks to our incredible Marnie Saitta casting, my old friend and castmate Jason Gerhardt stepped in that week for four or five shows.”
Yes, Vaughan and Gerhardt were co-stars when they both appeared on ABC sudser GENERAL HOSPITAL at the same time. Gerhardt played Cooper Barrett from 2007-08 on GH where Vaughan was nearing the end of his 2003-09 run as Lucky Spencer on the soap. Vaughan had previously played Diego Guttierez on CBS’ THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS from 2002-03 and joined the cast of DAYS in 2012 as the new Eric Brady.
And for those fans wishing Vaughan a speedy recovery, there’s no need… at least, not anymore! “FYI, this temporary fill-in was over three months ago!” the actor informed fans with a laugh. Yes, DAYS tapes so far ahead that this temporary recast actually occurred back in December before the soap went on break for the holidays!
So after a handful of episodes, Vaughan will reclaim his role and continue telling Eric’s story. And with all the juicy twists and turns coming up involving pregnancies and switched DNA tests, who knows what might happen next? Stay tuned!
