Cassandra James Opens up About Her "Transformational Year"

On July 17, GENERAL HOSPITAL star Cassandra James (Terry) celebrated another trip around the sun, and marked the occasion of her birthday with a heartfelt and profound Instagram post about where she’s been, how far she’s come, and her hopes for the rest of the year!

The actress — who is part Chinese — began her post by offering some background about the lunar calendar, which is followed by many East Asian cultures. “In Chinese culture, the return of your zodiac year in the lunar calendar marks the end and beginning of your cycle,” James explained. “Your zodiac year will often bring about great change and transformation in your life. Closing of chapters and letting go. New beginnings and blossoming intentions.

“This year of the Rabbit has certainly been that for me,” the GH star added.

According to National Geographic, each year in the lunar calendar has a corresponding zodiac sign, represented by one of 12 animals derived from ancient Chinese folklore. Those animals — rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig — repeat on a rotating basis and the legend says that people born under that sign share similar traits to the animal.

The lunar calendar operates under the moon’s cycles, unlike the Gregorian calendar, which is calculated by the movement of the sun. The lunar year 2023 is the Year of the Rabbit in the lunar calendar — as was 1987, the year that James was born.

“Today, on my birthday, halfway through this awe-inspiring, transformational year, I feel like I am beginning again,” the birthday girl continued. “Raw and daunted by the possibilities of a life that finally feels like mine, grateful for Love that I’ve cultivated, the Healing I’ve designed, and a Joy that doesn’t rely on others and blooms within me.”
