Ryan Carnes Returns to GENERAL HOSPITAL!
In early January, Bobbie Spencer’s friends and family will gather to say goodbye to GENERAL HOSPITAL’s beloved nurse — while the soap also pays tribute to her late portrayer, Jacklyn Zeman. And Ryan Carnes will be back on the canvas as Bobbie’s adopted son, Lucas, for the special shows.
People first reported the news that Carnes would be taking part in the two-episode memorial slated to air on Wednesday, January 10, and Thursday, January 11. The actor was cast as the Port Charles legacy character in 2004 before exiting the soap the following year. Lucas Jones was recast in 2005 with Ben Hogestyn, who played the character for about a year before being written out. In 2014, Carnes returned to GH and was heavily involved in storyline as Lucas and Brad fell in love and adopted a baby. Unfortunately, after the Wiley baby switch was revealed in early 2020, Lucas’ screen time diminished and Brad was sentenced to prison. In November of that year, Matt Trudeau was brought in to play Lucas for a handful of episodes, with no recast announcement made by the soap.
In his time away from Port Charles, Carnes has been busy making music and touring the country as one half of the duo Lovecolor. He also continued to be seen in acting projects, appearing in the Lifetime movie Psycho Sister-In-Law, the Hulu holiday film Cupid for Christmas, and the Spanish film Valentino.
According to People, the farewell episodes to Bobbie (and Zeman) will feature characters coming together to celebrate the beloved nurse’s life as well as plenty of surprise twists that draw upon the soap’s history. “It was about Jackie and everyone was so present,” Laura Wright (Carly) told the outlet. “It was like we as a cast got to really say goodbye.”
