William Lipton Clarifies His Status at GENERAL HOSPITAL

As soon as Cameron announced he would be going to Stanford, fans immediately wondered, “Is William Lipton leaving GENERAL HOSPITAL?” And given the fact that his relationship with Josslyn had come to an end after he discovered she was now with Dex, there wasn’t much to keep the young man in Port Charles. However, the actor assures fans that while he is going, his exit is not permanent.

In an upcoming issue of Soap Opera Digest, the actor explains the real-life reasons behind his decision to leave GH for a little while but adds that he will be “rejoining the cast in the summer” when both he and Cameron will no longer be in school. 

Lipton joined the cast of GH as the newest recast of legacy character Cameron Webber in 2018, and in the fall of 2021, enrolled in the University of Southern California to attend the renowned Thornton School of Music. While he was able to juggle his education and work on the soap for a time, it now appears that he’s taking some time to focus on his studies, much like former castmate Sydney Mikayla (ex-Trina) did.

Cameron’s decision to leave Port Charles to transfer to Stanford on an athletic scholarship led many viewers to wonder if Lipton was leaving the soap, perhaps to focus on his music career. Those fears were only exacerbated in recent episodes when Cam’s family and friends gathered for a going-away party.

While assuring fans he would be back in the summer, Lipton also expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of love and support he received online as news of his departure spread. “Working at GH has been such an important part of my life and while I’m not planning on leaving yet, I just want everyone to know how grateful I am to be part of such an amazing community,” he declared.
