Yvette Nicole Brown to Appear in GH’s Tribute to Sonya Eddy

Tags:

Soap superfan Yvette Nicole Brown will guest star on GENERAL HOSPITAL later this month in a role that has a very special meaning for the actress. According to TV Insider, Brown’s appearance will be tied to the soap’s tribute to her late friend, Sonya Eddy (Epiphany).

As previously reported, GH will pay tribute to the beloved Eddy and her alter ego — GH’s no-nonsense head nurse — in a special episode that is scheduled to air on Wednesday, March 29. Eddy passed away on Dec. 19 after falling ill following a scheduled surgery on Dec. 9. She was admitted to the hospital on Dec. 15, where doctors found Eddy had developed a serious infection and was placed on life support.

Brown — who previously played a reporter named Lois on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS — and Eddy had been friends for 20 years, having met when they both tested for the sitcom THE BIG HOUSE. “From that moment on, she became a dear friend of mine. I collected her,” the BIG SHOT and COMMUNITY star said in a touching Instagram post when Eddy died, explaining how they, along with journalist Carla Renata and Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer, were each other’s biggest champions.  “Supporting each other as we chased this dream. Often auditioning for the same things, always celebrating whoever won the gig. Sonya was a force. She was unapologetically joyous and a loyal friend.

“GH will never be the same without her,” continued Brown, “and none of us who knew her and loved her will be either.”

The standalone episode devoted to Eddy will be a part of GH’s 60th-anniversary celebrations, which includes the return of the Nurses Ball the week of April 3. Details about how Brown will factor into the tribute episode are being kept under wraps.
