The New Lucas on GENERAL HOSPITAL Is Matt Trudeau

Viewers were startled to see a new Lucas on GENERAL HOSPITAL in the Nov. 16 episode because there had been no announcement about a recast from ABC. Actor Matt Trudeau was playing the doctor, taking over from the previous Lucas, Ryan Carnes.

Trudeau has had roles in primetime series like DETROIT 1-8-7, THE CHICAGO CODE, and CHICAGO FIRE as well as films like One Small Hitch and My Daughter Was Stolen. GH marks the actor’s daytime debut, and not only did the soap not announce his casting, they also have not said whether the recast is temporary or permanent.

GH Julian Sam Lucas
Trudeau had strong scenes in his debut episode as Lucas tore into Julian.ABC

The character of Lucas Jones is no stranger to recasts. After a series of child actors, Lucas was aged in 2002 and recast with Evan Bonifant briefly before he was replaced with C.J. Thomason. Ryan Carnes stepped into the role in 2004, but he was recast with Ben Hogestyn in 2005. After the character was written out in 2006, Lucas didn’t return until 2013 with Carnes once again in the role.

Because ABC isn’t saying anything on the record regarding the Lucas recast, you’ll just have to stay tuned to see if Carnes reclaims his role or if Trudeau is around for the duration. And with Julian likely heading for a dramatic exit in the near future, there should be plenty of drama for Lucas to be involved in!
