What Happened to Brendan on GENERAL HOSPITAL
No, that wasn’t a new guy on GENERAL HOSPITAL who surprised Alexis in her office — he’s been on the soap before! But it was just one episode, so it’s understandable if fans don’t remember. The character of Brendan Byrne first appeared back in the Sept. 25, 2020, episode and was played by Josh Coxx, who reprised the role beginning in the March 31, 2022, episode of GH. Soap fans might remember him as Dan Wolek on ONE LIFE TO LIVE back in the mid-80s, or from his numerous primetime roles in series like BABYLON 5, STRONG MEDICINE, PERCEPTION, and NASHVILLE.
Alexis Davis and Valentin Cassadine first encountered Brendan when they attended Neil Byrne’s memorial service. Brendan admitted that his brother had talked about her a lot and felt he had met his perfect match. Alexis admitted that she and Neil had a special connection and felt lucky to have known him.
Unfortunately, that’s when Brendan snapped at Alexis and revealed he wished his brother had never met her! He pointed out that Neil had been on the right track until he had met Alexis and she turned his life upside down. He blamed her for his brother losing his job and taking the overdose that led to his death. Valentin tried to defend Alexis, but Brendan demanded that she leave before she ruined Neil’s memorial as well.
Now Brendan is back in Port Charles and tracked Alexis down to her new job running The Invader. He surprised her in her office and played nice until snapping and insisting that she should pay for part of Neil’s funeral expenses as she was responsible for his death. When Harmony interrupted, he thought she looked familiar, and later, going through a box of his brother’s things, found a thick file on the woman.
Brendan then began sending threatening texts to Harmony until she took his call and agreed to meet at the docks where he revealed he’d learned some interesting information about her. Specifically the crimes she confessed to his brother, such as stealing Willow. But then he revealed that not only is Willow Tait really Nina Reeves‘ daughter, but that there were two babies — one went to Harmony and the other to the black market to be adopted. Harmony insisted she had no money to be blackmailed for, but Brendan reminded her that Willow is practically a Quartermaine, and threatened that if she didn’t come through with a payoff, he’d see if Nina would pay up.
Later finding Willow and Nina arguing at the Metro Court, Brendan snapped a pick with them in the background to text Harmony to prove he was serious. He then met Harmony in the woods where she tried to pay him off but when he discovered that she had a syringe and was planning on hurting him, he realized she had been the one who murdered his brother, Neil! Unfortunately, in the ensuing struggle over the needle, Brendan fell over a cliff to his death!
