Did Monaco Score High Enough?

With two couples being voted off of DANCING WITH THE STARS: ALL-STARS this week, the low scores that Kelly Monaco (Sam, GENERAL HOSPITAL) got for her “surfer” flamenco and rumba with partner Valentin Chmerkovskiy could place her in danger if her fans didn’t rally to vote enough to keep her in!”They are everything!” the actress said last night of her loyal supporters. “If you add it up, we’ve probably been the lowest-scoring couple and we haven’t been in jeopardy. We haven’t scored a 10 yet, and we’re still in the competition.”

Although the judges didn’t enjoy the “surfer” flamenco, Monaco insists that they put a lot of work into the routine. “It was dangerous, actually,” she confided of performing in the water. “During dress rehearsal I actually slipped and it could have been really dangerous. So I was a little hesitant out there. I probably could have attacked it a little bit better, but knowing there was a level of danger there…”

Also, she believes that their second routine was worthy of higher scores. “I feel we danced well enough to justify a 10 in the rumba,” Monaco declared. “If they think in the flamenco that the choreography wasn’t up to snuff with what they wanted, I completely understand that and I respect their opinion. But I personally feel that I went out there and did a really clean solid rumba and the choreography that Val gave me was on a technical ability that was above and beyond my expectations. He made me dance the rumba the way it’s supposed to be danced. Scores aside, I feel like this has been my best dance yet this season. That’s al that matters. I feel really great about it.”

And what about that kiss that concluded their rumba? “It was planned,” Monaco revealed. “It was part of the choreography. We could have done anything, but we kissed like that.”

As the season winds to a close, she’s not looking ahead to victory, but still taking it one week at a time. “Tonight was the hardest,” she said. “Making it to the finale is icing on the cake.”
