Adam Huss Opens up About Taking Over as Nikolas on GH

As common as recasts are on soaps, it’s always challenging for an actor to step into a role already established by someone else. Especially when it’s sudden, as was the case for Adam Huss when he took over for the departing Marcus Coloma on GENERAL HOSPITAL.
“Feels surreal slipping on the Cassadine ring,” Huss confided on Instagram. “But as soon as I do, it all clicks into place. And I know what a huge responsibility I have to the fans to get it right, so I take it very seriously. And I wanted to say thank you for all the support and kind notes and comments thus far. Kindness goes a long way and you’ve made this guy’s week.”
Huss acted as a temporary recast for the role of Nikolas Cassadine for a single episode back in September 2021, and then again for a week-long run in November 2022. And with Coloma unable to finish out his run as Nikolas, Huss stepped in once again starting on Jan. 31. And he knows just how lucky he is to be playing such a great character on a legendary show like GH.

“I know what a big deal it is to the fans of this show to honor what I am stepping into, which is an unbelievably well-run, beautifully-crafted television institution of a show with consummate professionals both in front of and behind the camera,” Huss declared. “Every single person there gives their all to pull off these episodes.”
Sharing a few photos from the Feb. 3 episode where Nikolas lashed out at Spencer and Laura in the chapel (including the one above), Huss tried to explain how amazing it is to be playing this role, even if just for a short time. “I relished every moment of these scenes and working off of the two dynamos that are Nicholas Chavez (Spencer) and Genie Francis (Laura)!” he said. “Every one of my scene partners there are the best of the best. Maura West (Ava), Avery Kristen Pohl (Esme), Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth), Denise Crosby (Carolyn)… the list goes on. I am one lucky guy…”
And while GH previews make it appear that Nikolas is going to be written off the soap in a violent fashion, there are many fans who are hoping that his exit will be left open-ended enough that the character can be brought back one day. And perhaps even with Huss in the role again! In soaps, you never know what twists and turns may lie ahead!
