Please join us in wishing Kin Shriner a very happy anniversary as he celebrates 46 years playing Scotty Baldwin on GENERAL HOSPITAL! After being played by a series of child actors — most famously, Johnny Whitaker in the mid-’60s — the character of Scott was recast with Shriner, who made his debut in the Aug. 2, 1977, episode of the soap.
“46 years today on and off through thick and thin,” the actor shared on social media. “Thanks, GH fans — a great run!” (Although technically, Shriner has not been on GH the full 46 years as he’s come and gone multiple times over the decades to pursue other roles, including some on different soaps like Jeb on TEXAS, Harrison on Y&R, and Keith on ATWT.)
Shriner also shared a video set to “At This Moment” by Billy Vera & the Beaters that starts with an early scene opposite the late Jacklyn Zeman (Bobbie). Following that is a still of his name in the credits framed on the wall, and a shot of a magazine article with an interview “introducing” the young actor.
“Oh hi, GH fans,” Shriner then says (though you can’t hear him because of the music). “Today is my 46th year anniversary. I’d like to thank you guys for being fans for all these years and allowing me to spill into your living rooms. And Scotty is like a bad penny. He always turns up. So thanks again for watching. Stay tuned.”
The video concludes with a shot of an issue of Rona Barrett’s Daytimers magazine where Shriner autographed the cover he shared with Judith Light (Karen, OLTL), a closeup of another soap mag where he’s posing about to kiss Robin Mattson (ex-Heather), the cover of Soap Opera Digest’s 60h anniversary GH collector’s edition where he can be seen posing with Lynn Herring (Lucy), another magazine cover with Herring, and finally a cover from a Soaperstar GH Pin-up Book where he’s posing with Demi Moore (ex-Jackie), Anthony Geary (ex-Luke), and Loanne Bishop (ex-Rose).
Congratulations, and we’re looking forward to celebrating Shriner’s 50th anniversary at GH in a few more years!
