What Happened to Paul Hornsby on GENERAL HOSPITAL
Paul Hornsby was on GENERAL HOSPITAL for a few years in the ’90s, but newer viewers might only remember his more recent run on the soap. The guy first appeared in March 1991 and was played by Paul Satterfield until his exit in 1994. When the character returned to GH in July 2015, the role was recast with actor Richard Burgi, who ran until his exit in October 2016.
Paul Hornsby was originally brought to Port Charles in 1991 to help save ELQ after Tracy Quartermaine and Ned Ashton ran the family business into the ground. They weren’t happy about the newcomer taking over but were impressed by his business acumen. However, the Cartel poisoned Paul’s young daughter, Susan, to force him to give them control of ELQ’s assets. And despite Paul’s love for Jenny Eckert, he was also forced to marry Tracy to get control of her stock. But when she refused to give it up, cartel member Cesar Faison ordered Paul to kill her so he’d inherit it instead! When he refused, the Cartel tried to assassinate him.
Jenny rushed to his side at the hospital where they finally confessed their feelings. Paul quickly planned to divorce his wife, but Jenny was already engaged to Ned. Just as Paul convinced Jenny to call off the wedding, Tracy announced her pregnancy. Despite Paul finding the bomb Faison planted in Jenny’s bouquet, she still went through with her marriage to Ned. Paul naturally assumed Tracy was faking her pregnancy, but they later welcomed their son, Dillon Quartermaine. But that didn’t help save their marriage and they ultimately split up. As Paul went back to Jenny, Tracy and Ned both tried to keep them apart. Ned tried blackmail, but it was Tracy who almost succeeded by accidentally hitting Jenny with her car! Jenny used that crime to get Tracy to back off, and after Ryan Chamberlin interrupted Mac and Felicia’s wedding, Paul and Jenny were married instead. After honeymooning in Fiji, the couple decided to leave Port Charles to live happily ever after.
In 2015, Tracy was stunned to run into Paul again as he claimed he wanted to rekindle things with her and repair his relationship with Dillon. However, despite his new job as district attorney, Paul was actually working as Jerry Jacks‘ accomplice and was trying to take down Sonny Corinthos. He sparked an affair with Ava Jerome behind Tracy’s back, and she was furious to find them in bed together. When Paul and Ava were later caught dealing weapons, he was able to spin it as a sting operation so they wouldn’t go to prison.
In a shocking twist, a serial killer stalking the halls of GH was revealed to be Paul! Ava discovered the truth and blackmailed him into helping her get the charges against her brother, Julian, dropped. Unfortunately, Sabrina Santiago wasn’t as lucky and when she happened upon the identity of the killer, Paul strangled her to death! Tracy overheard Paul visiting Susan and explaining how everything he’d done was to avenge his daughter’s rape. Paul was forced to try and kill Tracy, but she managed to contact Anna who arrived in time to thwart his attempt. Paul was arrested and sentenced to 30 years in prison where he remains to this day.
